Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is a magnificent white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the most iconic and recognizable landmarks in the world and is considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture.

Emperor Shah Jahan, a Mughal ruler, commissioned the Taj Mahal in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who passed away during childbirth in 1631. Construction of the monument began in 1632 and was completed in 1653, taking around 21 years to finish. The name "Taj Mahal" means "Crown of the Palaces" and is an expression of the deep love and grief of the emperor for his deceased wife.

The Taj Mahal complex is a symmetrical structure with a central white marble dome surrounded by four minarets, all standing on a raised platform. The intricate marble inlays, floral patterns, and calligraphy on the walls and façades make it a true marvel of architectural beauty and craftsmanship. The gardens and reflecting pool add to the overall charm of the monument.

The Taj Mahal is not only a symbol of eternal love but also an architectural wonder that attracts millions of tourists from around the world each year. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and is often regarded as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
